Performance Evaluation and Thermal Shock Behavior of PS-PVD (Gd0.9Yb0.1)2Zr2O7/YSZ Thermal Barrier Coatings

In this study, (Gd0.9Yb0.1)2Zr2O7 (GYbZ)/yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) double-ceramic-layer (DCL) thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) were prepared by plasma spray-physical vapor deposition (PS-PVD). The microstructure, mechanical performance, and shock behavior of with spraying distances 600, 800, 1000 mm investigated. GYbZ coating a distance 600 showed closely packed columnar structure. However, the 800 quasi-columnar had thickest crystals obvious inter-columnar gaps. addition, exhibited excellent performance best resistance. primary failure patterns appearing during shocking on surface TBCs can be classified into following five types: caves, exfoliation, delamination cracks, spalled areas, radiate cracks. Furthermore, these in water-quenching tests is clarified.
